Division of Management Sciences

The Division of Management Sciences recognizes the importance of management, finance, marketing, and the understanding of human behavior as key factors in the growth and development of organizations operating in a dynamic world. These factors set the criteria to establish the programs offered which allow students to develop decision-making skills and assimilate theoretical and practical knowledge. The students are enabled to understand organizational problems, as well as to plan, forecast and establish strategies for short, medium and long-term action.

To attain these goals and ensure that faculty and students of the Division are always in the lead, business administration philosophy and practice, course structure is constantly reviewed and updated by consulting current literature and conferring with top-level executives.

The Division of Management Sciences offers the following degree programs:

Department of Information Technologies

At present Information Technologies forms part of the everyday life of Business, Government the  workforce, schools, training, communication and many more areas. The fundamental components of Informatin Technologies are the software and hardware which have undergone a development at an accelerate pace for the well being of humanity.

The mission of the Department of Information Technologies at the Universidad de las Americas, is to prepare competent professionals in the most innovative tools and certifications of the international industry .

The Department of Information Technologies offers the following degree program:

  • Licenciatura en Tecnologías de Información
  • Bachelor of Science in Information Technologies

 

Division of Behavioral and Developmental Sciences

The Division of Behavioral and Developmental Sciences prepares professionals committed to understanding individual and societal living conditions under different development and health needs in order to deal with day-to-day life integration and adaptation.

To accomplish this goal, the Division of Behavioral and Developmental Sciences offers the following degree programs:

  • Licenciatura en Psicología, majoring in:

        - Clinical Psychology

        - Organizational Psychology

  • Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with the same majoring areas
  • Maestría en Psicología Clinica
  • Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology
  • Doctorado en Psicología

Division of Law

Fundamental in today’s world, characterized by communication, technology and globalization within two areas: economic and political, the Division is devoted to prepare professionals to face the challenges inherent in new trends.

The Division of Law strives to keep updated its undergraduate program, and delivered by faculty members with the highest academic preparation that share the Division’s excellence and improvement ideals.

The Division is aware that the progressive opening to Mexico’s economy by international markets has greatly increased the demand for bilingual professionals with a solid theoretical and practical background in legal disciplines.

The Division of Law offers the following program:

  • Licenciatura en Derecho
  • Bachelor of Arts in Legal Studies

 

Division of Business and International Relations

The Division is oriented toward the study of the different aspects of international relations from an interdisciplinary perspective. Since 1987 it has offered the Licenciatura en Relaciones Internacionales, an academic program that throughout the years has consolidated a unique profile. A new cirriculum has been introduced bearing an important proportion of its courses in international trade.

Full-time faculty members from this Division have broad academic and professional experience. Falculty staff is also complemented by part-time professors that enrich teaching experiences with a diversity of cultures and academic approaches.

The Divison of Business and International Relations offers the following programs:

Department of Education

Since its beginnings the Universidad de las Americas has demonstrated a deep commitment to quality and state of the art education oriented not only to form professionals of excellence but also their influence on society.

At present, the Department of Education offers, besides its curricular programs, numerous conferences, seminars and workshops on relevant topics in Education.

The prestigious and widely recognized Clinica OIRA is part of the Department and it provides, besides its main therapeutical service for the community, a fully-equipped practicum scenario for all its students.

The Department offers the following programs:

  • Bachelor of Science in Human Communication Disorders 
  • Especialidad en Desarrollo Cognositivo

Department of Mass Media

The mission of the department of Mass Media (Communication) is to give the students all the tools they need to work in the design, production, direction and evaluation of written press, radio, television, cinematography, advertising and organizational communication. At the end of the mayor, the student will be capable to work in journalism for radio, television, printed and digital media, and creating professional content for radio, television and cinematography. He will have all the knowledge he needs to diagnose and solve internal problems in organizations and propose a resolution plan.

The Department of Mass Media offers the following program:

  • Licenciatura en Comunicación
  • Bachelors of Arts in Mass Media

 

English Language Center

The mission of the English Language Center is to consolidate the Educational Model of the Universidad de las Américas which is oriented to prepare bilingual professionals, capable of participating adequately in academic and professional environments both in English and Spanish.

To comply with its mission, the Center has integrated the English language to the curriculum of the undergraduate programs, offerting courses to those students who did not accredit English at the requiered performance level upon admission.

English courses are delivered at the University with specific instruction for the teaching of a foreign language. This didactic technique instructions promotes the development of receptive communication abilities (referring to oral and written lenguage comprehension) and of expressive communication abilities (related to the production of oral and written language). As a result, students are able to be part of a conversation, attend conferences, make oral presentations, read a text comprenhensively and produce quality essays.

Professors with solid professional preparation, have been trained to teach a second lenguage, deliver English courses. Professors are also committed to the integral development of the students.

English Learning Management System

The English Learning Management System is an integral part of the Language Center and its mission is to provide students with the opportunity to carry out a practical learning experience in an English speaking virtual environment.

The Global eWorkbook represents an evolution in self-study materials for students. Within a rich multimedia environment it provides a wealth of resources for the learner, enabling them to continue their studies at their own pace, and in their own time.

For the Proffesional Area of undergraduate programs:

  • Remedial English V, VI and TOEFL preparation

 

Mathematics Center

The Mathematics Center suppots students in the development of their quantitative abilities  in the different academic programs offered by the University. It also contributes to develop students analysis, synthesis and logical reasoning skills.

The main purpose of the Center is to improve the teaching quality of the courses it delivers, guaranteeing that students acquire a suitable level of knowledge and skills that will enable them to formulate, solve and interpret problems and situations of their field of study.

The content of the courses is structured accordingly to the requirements of each undergraduate and graduate program offered at the University.

College Writing

In the Common Core of its undergraduate programs the Universidad de las Américas offers two mandatory courses of writing skills. Through these courses the University is seeking to develop in the students the communicative competence to use oral language for the developmnt in professional fields, as well as participations in panel discussions, debates, forums and presentations. Also, the ability to use written language in academic and professional fields, to be able to develop academic and research reports.

The courses offered are:

  • Writing Skills I and II

  

General Culture Seminars

In addition to the Common Core the Universidad de las Américas offer three General Culture courses to complete the academic formation of students. These required courses are at no cost to new students.

  • Mexican Culture, with this course the student will be able to analyze the influence of historical and cultural events of Mexico, the idiosyncrasies of its people with the aim of understanding the current state of the professional enviroment they will be part.
  • Personality and Self Esteem, with this course the students will be able to strategically use their personal resources to develop a positive self-esteem through the identification of the characteristics of own personality.
  • Food and Helth, with this course the student will be able to integrate theoretical and methodological knowledge to design diets and physical activity plans.

 

Direction of Continuing Education

The purpose of the Direction of Continuing Education is to operate under a Total Quality philosophy, offering a wide educational selection of courses diplomados and Master´s degree programs through diplomados (MBA and Special Education). These options are inserted in a concept of educational for life in the fields of Management, Education and Psychology.

This area offers also such services as: needs detection, training plans and programs design and courses specially tailored for public and provate organizacions and institutions.

Diplomados and courses are delivered throughout the year at accessible schedules for professionals.
